My story and art process
I don't come from a warm nor exotic land (France). I'm aware I might have appropriated the colors and themes of landscapes that aren't my own but I can't help it, these tones and shapes simply warm me up!
A bit like the painter Henri Rousseau who illustrated jungles at his time without traveling, I use a naive style with tonic colors to picture extravagant scenes mixing animals and human bodies. Animals are at the heart of my message. Their look, sometimes innocent, sometimes mysterious for us humans, makes them genuinely striking.
The discomfort created in some of my paintings appears when these animal faces seem to mimic human postures and parallel behaviours. The human being has always made a point of feeling superior to the animal world. Descartes' "animal-machine" is even devoid of mind. My purpose is to give them back spirit and "humanism" (since it is necessary to come to that word ironically) so that we can linger over them again.
